Author Gene Stratton Porter built her "Cabin in Wildflower Woods," near Sylvan Lake, Indiana in 1913. There she enjoyed writing in a natural setting, which inspired much of her writing. among her best-known works include: Freckles, A Girl of the Limberlost, Laddie, and The Harvester.
