One of Frankfort, Kentucky's amateur horticulturists John Bibb developed a new variety of lettuce around 1865. Originally called Limestone Lettuce the vegetable was later renamed for Bibb. This lettuce is light green and has small tender leaves. Bibb never sold his lettuce preferring to give the seeds away.
